Well, my makeover wouldn't be complete without some new makeup tips from professional makeup artist Penny Dahl. She sat me down and got to work. First she applied a clear Foundation Primer called Bodyography. It goes over your moisturizer and under your foundation. It felt like silk and made a wonderful base for the foundation. She mixed two colors together for a balanced overall color, because she said you are more likely to not have a "line" on your chin when you mix the colors together. You can also use foundation in spots instead of all over if you just need a little coverage. Next she used powder to set the foundation and control the shadow to help it stay longer. She used a nice big brush, tapped off the excess then brushed it all over. It makes your blush go on softer also because you already have it finished on your face.

After that, She used a staining lipstick. It was a 16-hour color that was a little darker than my usual shade. She said you can always go lighter with your gloss, but if you eat or drink you will still have color on your lips that you don't have to constantly reapply.
Next on her list, she attacked my eyebrows. She said that your brows and lips form the structure of your face. You need to have the brows neat and arched nicely above your eyes, then you can add just a bit of brow liner to them just the make them pop. Not a lot though, people tend to get carried away and "draw" their brows on, when they could be more successful with just a little fill in. Just fill in gently and evenly and go backwards using small strokes. After that, brush your brows back over with a brow brush After we tamed the unruly brows, she added the eyelash liner. You apply your color mixed with a little brown to add the natural touch right to the eyelash area You don't want a perfectly dark line across your lid, just fill in the lashes to get the va va va voom look you want. When lining, make the bottom liner meet the top liner by going up. To make your eyes look smaller, line the inside of the lashes. To make them look bigger line the outside. To make your liner stay longer, apply the first time, then apply the shadows, and then reapply the liner. Use brown undertones to make it look more natural. Blend, blend, blend, also brushes are very important. Choose wisely they are not all created equal! Another big tip she taught me was to always use an eyelash curler. It helps to keep everything going UP! She was very adamant about that, up up up! Add mascara after to just the tips of the lashes.

Next was the shadow. This was the challenging area for me. I always seemed to do it wrong, but with her tips I am now the shadow queen! She said that for the lid of your eye, put a highlighter on the whole lid with a good brush or your compact powder. Not white, just a natural color, same as your powder. On the lid of your eye closets to your eyelashes, make that lightest. In the crease of your eye, make that area darker to create depth. This make the eye pop and decreases any chances of a heavy lid look. Always add brown to disguise the full color of your shadow, it makes a world of difference and they can't tell what color it really is, just pretty. Keep the nice soft color on the lid, use the darker for crease. Soft again on the top near the underside of the brow. You don't need to be afraid of color, when you use the right brushes and the right colors you can look great very easily. Always shake off your brush before you put it on to remove the excess amount so it doesn't fall all over your clothes. Her main theme with everything is to Keep it all soft.

Lastly, blush, no matter what face you make, the blush stays in a little tiny area on your cheek, then go over it with your powder.
After her tutorial with me, I came to a new appreciation for makeup and how it can enhance your good qualities instead of detracting from your whole overall look by being to pasty. Keeping it soft and light, and by going back over what you have already done, makes your look stay longer and look more natural. I had a blast shopping for new brushes, shadows, liners, and of course my eyelash curler, I finally felt like I had the tools to do this thing right. So with my new hair and makeup, and my new body (21 pound weight loss) I set out to do some serious shopping and some serious flirting. Both were very successful! Thanks Penny and Donna!
