Hi! It’s the D’Atri Cousins! Welcome to the Kid’s Kitchen!  We are so glad you came over. This month has a very special day in it - Mother’s Day!  So since we love our Moms so much, we decided to get together and create some fun recipes for them.  You can surprise your Mom by following our easy 1, 2, 3 steps.  So, grab your aprons and a helper and try some of these super fun recipes with love on your mind and Mom in your heart.

First we started with simple rice crispy treats and turned them into an awesome flower bouquet by using a large heart mold and a fun dinosaur. Then we decorated them with milk chocolate!

1. In a medium pot over medium high heat, mix the butter and marshmallows.  Add  rice crispy cereal and mix well.
2. Butter your hands and carefully press the mix into the molds or into a cookie sheet to be cut out with cookie cutters.
3. Using the melted chocolate in a pastry bag spell out the word MOM. Once you pop the crispys out of the mold, you can  decorate them with chocolate and sprinkles. We added spikes on Dino's back and put a smile on his face!
4. For the bouquet, stick the crispys onto bamboo sticks and arrange in a small bowl.  (We added a ball of crispy mix to the inside of the bowl to help keep the sticks firm and upright.)

After that we still had energy so we made some really awesome cookies with a new cookie press that makes the cookies into 3D!  We used the best recipe ever, it makes a perfect cut out cookie every time.

1. Mix the batter, roll it thin on a board, cut out the desired shapes and bake.
2. When the cookies cool, decorate them using the icing listed below, add the little pieces for the 3D effects.
3. Display on a beautiful tray with pictures of youself  and surprise Mom with a platter just for her.

Cut-Out Cookie Recipe

For the Dough:

2/3 cup unsalted butter, slightly softened
1-cup sugar
1 tsp. Baking powder
½ tsp. Salt
¼ cup milk
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:
In a large bowl, blend butter with a mixer until fluffy and pale. Beat in Sugar, baking powder, salt, milk egg and vanilla.
Beat in ½ the flour. Stir in remaining flour a little a time until dough forms. If too dry, stir in water until dough is smooth.
Divide dough in half. Roll out dough about 1/8 inch thick on sheets of wax paper and place on a cookie sheet.
Refrigerate for one hour. Cut out dough with cookie cutters and bake for 7-10 minutes.

To Decorate with Royal Icing:

1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon meringue power or 3 egg whites
1 Tablespoon water (as needed)

Combine sugar and meringue powder (or egg whites) in a mixing bowl. Beat on low speed, adding water a few drops at a time, until desired consistency is achieved. Mixture should not be runny. Add food coloring and pipe or spoon onto cookies. Meringue powder can be found at kitchen supply or cake decorating store.
